To Our Time of Timidity

We need old fear to pose new trust

And rid its wisdom onto us—

The anxiety: every time

I remember

How two becomes a healthy one,

Like sky and sea or moon and sun—

One adorable horizon

Or one eclipse.

The blue roof stretches on until

The mountain tops curfew my view,

And then this shallow perspective

Resurrects inactive passions.

So then how far would feelings flee

Before I found you next to me—

Beneath eclipse, sun, moon, sky, or

By any sea.

Entire typhoons have been taught

To keep peace with Amphitrite:

And Cupid once will strike all hearts—

Weak and mighty.
